A new adventure

A few weeks ago my friend Crystal blogged about considering a switch to cloth diapers. At first I admit I thought she was crazy, but as I looked at the sites she had linked to I realized she was not! After several hours and days of research, prayers, and discussions, David and I decided to jump in and make the switch. We are using bumGenius pocket diapers and so far (after 2 1/2 days) we love it!!! I don't have time right now to get into a lot of details. However, a few of my friends and I are pulling together to run a blog about cloth diapering. I know there are a lot of misconceptions about cloth diapering, so I want to help clear up those ideas.

Now don't give me wrong, I love Huggies. However, it gets expensive to spend $40+ a month on diapers. When we have another baby that expense will most likely double! So, we have made an investment now in cloth diapers. It will take time (about 10 months) to start saving money, but the initial investment is worth it.

So without further ado, here is William modeling one of his new diapers!

It's a little bulky, but not bad at all!!!

He loves them, and that's what matters!!!

9 months old

William is growing so fast! I can't believe it. David and I weighed William last night and he is now 20 pounds! He is also 28 1/4 inches long. He only has 2 pounds and 3/4 inch to go before he outgrows his car seat!
William is an incredibly happy baby! This last month he discovered how fun it is to let your tongue hang out of his mouth. My grandma G helped him discover that!

One of many tongue hanging-out pictures.

He loves to play!

He is a pro at standing up in his crib!

He is also a pro at crawling! He loves to follow us around the apartment. He will also crawl under the table and into other small spaces. I don't think he realizes how big his head is, though. He's often hitting it on things.

Nap time is lots of fun now that he is so mobile. Oh, and do you like his new crib sheet? Target just came out with a bedding line that is brown and blue and features stars.
Completely perfect for our nursery!!

I love when William makes this face. He is such a silly and happy boy!

William, I love you SO much! I look forward to each new day with you because each day is a joyous experience. I now really know joy because I know you.
Love,
Mommy

Uh oh!!!

I'm really grateful for inspiration. On Tuesday the 5th I told David that we needed to lower William's mattress the next day. I was just planning ahead for when William learns how to stand up in his crib. Well, Tuesday night we were all sleeping peacefully when I heard a loud THUD! coming from William's room. I jumped out of bed and ran in expecting to see my sweet boy on the floor. Thankfully, it wasn't him. His car seat fell out of the closet. You can be sure that my heart was racing though. Wednesday we lowered the mattress.
In case you're wondering if this is going somewhere, it is.

This is what William did on Monday.

This is what William did on Tuesday.

He looks SO proud of himself! I love it!

William's afternoon naptime now has another challenge added to it. Not only does he NOT want to sleep, but now he stands up (oh, and did I mention he hasn't quite figured out how to get back down). Oh well. I say: Bring it on, baby; bring it on!

What do you get?

What do you get when you mix washable markers, a cute baby with big blue eyes
(and a decent-sized forehead), and one bored mommy?

Well, it might look something like this...

and like this...

and then afterwards, it looks something like one laughing mommy trying to scrub one squirmy baby's forehead to remove said washable marker before daddy gets home from finals.
Luckily, it all came off!

Busy Week

We've had a fun week this last week.
We took several opportunities to enjoy the beautiful weather.

On Monday we had a picnic and played in the park for Family Night. William really enjoyed the swings. I took him down a few slides and I think he enjoyed that too.

On Thursday we went to the Thanksgiving Point Gardens for the Tulip Festival. We were surprised at the huge variety of tulips they had. I really liked the dark red and dark purple tulips. They were gorgeous!!! We even saw some black tulips that were very pretty. We also saw a little family of Canada Geese. The little goslings were super cute! William enjoyed being outside and the nice breeze. He enjoyed the bumpy walkways so much that he fell asleep! David resisted the urge to roll down the large hill, even though there were lots of people doing it. After we left the park we got some soft serve ice cream cones from the Thanksgiving Point village. William loved the few bites he got! I've never seen his mouth open SO wide!!!

William has also been working very hard this week on learning new tricks! On Tuesday he got into the sitting position all by himself! On Thursday he finally figured out how to crawl!!! We've enjoyed watching him crawl around. On Saturday my Grandma Gowans helped him learn how to stick his tongue out really far. It is pretty funny. And today, he figured out how to clap!!! Yeah!!!! It is so fun watching him grow. He makes us laugh all the time!

We hope you had a great week too!

Jessica

My sister Shannon had her baby on Thursday the 23rd. This is Jessica. She weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. Why is it that my sister and her husband who both have brown hair (well, Eric USED to have brown hair) have TWO kids with red hair? Who knows. Anyway, Becky this is for you!!!!

Peek-a-boo

The other day I noticed William doing something really cute. He was playing peek-a-boo with himself. He would look in the mirror and then quickly look away. This went on for a few minutes. It was so adorable!

Where's William?

I am 8 months old!!!

Mom says that I'm getting SO big. She also says that my personality is coming out more and more each day. I don't really know what she's talking about. All I know is...

I love being silly... with mom's help of course.

I am GREAT at feeding myself.

I can move around the floor like crazy!!!! Mom isn't quite sure how I do it.
Maybe she should just watch a little closer. Sometimes I roll, other times I use my
special moves.

I love to sit, I love to lay on my back, and I love being on my tummy when I'm in the tub.

I love bath time. Bath toys are so much fun, especially if they're squishy.

My feet are so fun, and they are really tasty. You should try yours; I'll bet you'll like them.

Yeah, I know, I know. I have big, blue eyes. Aren't they gorgeous! I'm going to be a
heart breaker someday. But for now, I'm just going to enjoy being 8 months old.

Thanks for visiting! We love it when you visit and leave us comments.

Happy Belated Easter!!!

We had a great Easter (9 days ago) at our house. We each received an Easter basket filled with goodies. That night we had a yummy dinner with David's family. One of the best parts of Easter came for me during Primary. During Sharing Time our primary president talked about the crucifixion and resurrection of the Savior. It was a beautiful lesson and really brought the spirit in. I'm grateful we have this special holiday to reflect on the atonement and the resurrection of our Savior and the hope that we all enjoy because of what He did for us.

William with his Easter basket.

He really loved his new tie!

He looks like a little sly fellow in this picture. So cute!

Perfect Date?

I thought April 16th was the perfect date.
You know..."not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket."
I think the girl from Miss Congeniality got it wrong. What do you think?
(p.s. Thanks Dani, I stand corrected, she actually said April 25th, but you get the idea... it's not supposed to snow LIKE THIS in APRIL!!!)

My house.

I wish I had taken a picture of my car this morning before I unburied it for David. CrAzY!!!!
The weather man this morning on ABC mentioned the "little bit of snow in Utah County".
Do you call this a little bit?

Poor tulips. I hope you survive.

Little Mozart?

Yesterday I pulled out my keyboard and had some fun practicing some hymns. I then let William have a turn. He loved it!

(He turned the beat on all by himself.)
Perhaps he is actually a little Jon Schmidt instead. What do you think?

The best part of waking up

Who wouldn't love waking up to this every morning!!!

Tuesday

This is what I did on Tuesday. Lots of pictures... hopefully great captions. Enjoy!

Claire, "Hey I want that!"
William, "Did she really just do that? Doesn't she know I'm bigger than she is?"
William, "Oh look, my mouse."

William, "Mouse!"
Claire, "Man, there goes the rattle."
William, "Man, I hope she doesn't try to steal my mouse next!"
All is well.
Too cute!

Claire, "Sweet, is that my foot?"
I wish I had gotten William's reaction. Claire quickly realized her mistake.
Claire, "I think I like this rattle better."
William, "Oh no, wait for it..."
William, "I was right! Man, she's LOUD!!"
Claire, "Hold my hand!!! I want your hand!"
William, "Claire, let go! Don't you know we're cousins!"
Claire, "William! You're overreacting! I just want to play!"
William, "Claire, I think you're the one overreacting."

Claire, "Fine then. I'll just eat my thumb."
William, "Peace at last!"

I guess this is what happens when you're bored and starting to get frazzled. You take way too many pictures and make up weird captions for them.

Kanien, I think next time, Claire, William and I want to go to Park City with you.
